www.ceotodaymagazine.com 90 CEO Today Europe Awards 2018 the united kingdom ROB SHAW CEO of Jaywing PLC ABOUT ROB SHAW Rob has been CEO of Jaywing since 2015. He started out as a software developer. When he became IT Director at Contact Centre specialist Ventura, his career took off; Rob was on the board aged 30. Ventura grew internationally and Rob managed services for the likes of Tesco, O2 and British Gas. He moved into digital marketing when he became CTO at Latitude and MD of Latitude White. Latitude managed complex digital and search marketing campaigns and developed its own software products. Rob was part of the management team that sold to Private Equity in 2007. Rob joined search specialist Epiphany as CEO in 2009. By the time it was sold to Jaywing in 2014, it had grown from 25 to 160 people. Rob is also a non-exec director for the late Jane Tomlinson’s fundraising legacy, Run for All, and is a Trustee of the Jane Tomlinson Appeal. Rob’s 2018 outlook: “I’ve spent my career growing companies and building technology that demystify complex data problems and demonstrate its true value. Data is finally being recognised as a strategic asset. In 2018, digital transformation will be critical as AI will see a step change from companies talking about it to using it in earnest. Organisations with solid AI knowledge and an ability to gear up their platforms and operations are likely to be early adopters. Our research shows bigger organisations lack the necessary knowledge, making AI not just a great leveller but disrupter. Our recent launch of predictive modelling tool Archetype, which has cracked the problem of the AI “black box” that has until now prevented the use of AI in credit scoring, was a moment of immense pride. With tools that perform better than humans, people’s jobs will inevitably change; we believe AI will free people from doing things that get in the way of their ability to think. I’ve always worked in technical disciplines, both as a practitioner and leader. Today, those technical disciplines, each of which demand their own specialist knowledge, have to come together to achieve the best results. At Jaywing we work in a number of sectors and industries, from PPC and programmatic to brand, financial services to entertainment and of course in credit and fraud risk. Data science is what unites them. Invention and use of AI, how to connect it all together, that’s where it’s at.
